Chubo had the honor of being the official knife sponsor of the Melbourne Food and Wine Festival this past March. Now in its 27th year, this year’s festival hosted over 250 events, not just in the city of Melbourne, but all over the state of Victory celebrating the innovative chefs, award winning restaurants, wine makers and producers that make the region such an incredible gastronomic destination. Naturally we had a pretty great time and here are some of the highlights.

Have you ever seen a more beautiful Almond Croissant?

We pretty much started each morning at Lune Croissanterie. Lucky for us there was an outpost across the street from our hotel! The pain au chocolat was our sleeper favorite, but whatever you choose, be sure to grab a spot in the front so you can watch the meticulous care that goes into the production here.

We kicked off our arrival at the festival with The World’s Longest lunch. This beautiful event in Prahan, featured a team headed up by Karen Martini and and an all female chef line up in celebration of International Women’s Day. You can’t image how smoothly they rolled out lunch for 1,600 people.

All the alliums at the South Melbourne Market

Founded in 1867, the South Melbourne Market is a feast for the senses. You can find all manner of provisions, meat, fish, fresh produce and imported items and flowers. It’s ringed by food vendors featuring cuisines from around the globe.

In addition to providing all the knives for the workshops that took place over three days at the House of Food and Wine, our knives were used in all the chef demos. We also had a pop up shop at the venue.

Lucky Melbourne has another gorgeous market on the north side of the Yarra Market. Queen Victoria Market, founded in 1878 is the largest open air market in the Southern Hemisphere. We got up early, to check out the produce and filled our suitcases with coffee and tea from the small roasters and purveyors that fill up the market.

It is Melbourne after all so we filled up on Avocado Toast and terrific coffee every chance we got. Here is a particularly excellent version at Chef Scott Pickett’s casual spot Pickett’s Deli. Other terrific things were eaten and drank at the following: Lee Ho Fuk, Long Chim, Superfine, Sunda, St. Crispin, Tipo 00, Cumulus, Embla, and HuTong, to name a few! Thank you Melbourne for such warm hospitality! We’re already dreaming of coming back.l
